I use a widget that translates a website into any of the 24 languages that Google supports.

Just today made it was into a WordPress plugin that is free to install at http://getinternationalclients.com/translation-plugin/.

Once installed and activated it appears as an option in the widget panel so you can add it to your sidebar where you wish.

This installs like any other plugin, and takes advantage of the multiple sidebars that are common now in WordPress. Once installed and activated you go to the widgets section of the design. You decide where the most appropriate place to place is to install your plugin.
